Although not perfect, the Corvette has proven to be MY favorite car time and time again and I don't need to get into a dick measuring contest to prove it. But as we get close to Sebring, I started thinking about the fight between Porsche and Corvette and how all that racing technology transfers to street cars. I guess the folks at Porsche's Excellence Magazine had the same thoughts and decided to find out what happens when you pit the ultimate street versions against each other.
I was invited to the Nelson Ledges Raceway in Ohio to test-drive SPI’s latest projects: the Porsche 997 GT2 and Nissan GT-R. Initial laps were treated as a warm-up both for the machines and me, but my pace quickened as I began to rein in all 800 hp from these retuned sports cars.
This is truly an amazing site. This beautiful silver Porsche 996 GT2 is rocking the new $10K HRE CF40 wheels! The outter barrel is made from Carbon Fiber by Dymag and then HRE machines the center section to assemble this wheel. They are 19×8.5 and 19×12 for the GT2. This is one of the strongest and lightest wheels right now and the black center with the carbon looks amazing here! Check out more HRE Wheels and Porsche Products here.
Spy photographers snapped a single shot of the 2007 Porsche 911 GT2 in testing. The car is rumored to have a 530 horsepower engine and a top speed of over 200 mph. It will have the same braking system as the Porsche Carrera GT and the same wide rear end as the all-wheel-drive 911s (such as the Turbo), and the 2007 GT3 RS.
Via our friends at BadBoyVettes, the Pratt & Miller GT2 Corvette was seen testing over the weekend at Road Atlanta. Outfitted in flat black and featuring Jake on the doors, the new GT2 Corvette also has the racing team's motto stenciled appropriately above the rear wheels: Take No Prisoners.
Corvette Racing's Program Manager Doug Fehan recently participated in a Q&A session. During the 8-question interview he takes a look back at the 2009 ALMS season and then looks ahead to the team's goals of winning the ALMS GT Championship and Le Mans in 2010.
Compared to the 911 Turbo, this 911 GT2 is recognizable by the missing fog-lights in the front bumper and the huge rear wing as well as a more modest looking front lip-spoiler. Built on the latest 997 platform, this Porsche 911 GT2 was not expected to exist by some industry sources.
MotorTrend serves up a quick video of a straight line drag race between the Corvette ZR1 (638hp), Ferrari 599 GTB (612hp), Nissan GT-R (480hp), Porsche 911 GT2 (530hp).
I got sick of looking at the 30 scanned copies of the leaked 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 brochure this morning, so I had my secretary transcribe the entire thing for me. Don’t thank me, thank her!
Summer is definitely here and with it comes a whack of wicked sexy photos submitted by users around the world. Lamborghini Murcielago's, Bentley Continental GT's, Ferrari F430's....more
Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen made history today with Corvette Racing's first win in the GT2 class at the Grand Prix of Mosport. Magnussen had an epic battle in the final minutes with the #62 Risi Ferrari driven by Pierre Kaffer. Kaffer pushed Magnussen hard but the Dane was able to stay in front and crossed the finish line 0.331 seconds ahead the red Ferrari.
In a recent article highlighting Corvette Racing's Green initiative, GM Road Racing Group Manager Steve Wesoloski said the development of the GT2 Corvette is on track and should be ready to test for the first time in mid to late March.
The guys at SpeedART have obviously come to the decision that the latest performance variant of the 997 911, the Porsche GT2, is underpowered. They have taken it and rectified this small problem.
Reiter Engineering has just updated the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 to meet 2010 FIA specifications in order to compete in the GT3 class of racing. Reiter has made road going versions of the Gallardo in the past, so we'll wait patiently for a subsequent announcement, or lack there of, for a street machine. In the time being, we can marvel at this revamped supercar. The new Reiter LP560 GT3...

Being one of the premier addresses for stylish and refined Porsche tuning, Gemballa has earned itself a worldwide reputation over the course of time. Thanks to its outstanding expertise.
This is just a quick "thank you" note to all the people involved in getting 1600 hp worth of Switzer-tuned crazy out onto Nelson Ledges' road course a few weeks back. Links to reviews and more pics, of course!
The 996GT2 has a fearsome reputation as a bit of a brute. Lots of grunt going through the rear wheels only...sounds OK to me. This one was at a Porsche Club race event at Sydney's Eastern Creek raceway.
Autowerks Porsche Meetup April 2008 Photo Gallery 2 (105 Photos) More classic and current porsches on show and out of storage for the first time this year!
In the video presentation from GM Road Race Manager Steve Wesoloski at Sebring, we got an update on the building the GT2 Corvette. Steve said the following that should put a smile on any Corvette Racing fan: "They (Pratt & Miller) hung the body last week... It's a ZR1 body. At the doors, it's got flares front and rear to fit the racing wheels and tires. I got to tell you that it looks more aggressive than the C6.R. But It looks purposeful, it doesn't look gaudy and it fits that class."
