German carmaker Daimler is selling its entire stake in India’s Tata Motors for up to $429 million, sources familiar with the matter said on Monday.
Daimler was offering 25.6 million shares in India’s largest vehicle maker at 737.4 rupees to 761.3 rupees each, a discount of 4 percent to 7 percent below the stock’s Monday close of 796.75 rupees, sources said.

Due to the ongoing downturn on almost all markets and the upcoming model changeover for the high-volume E-Class series, Mercedes-Benz Cars sold a total of 72,200 vehicles (February 2008: 96,800) worldwide in February (minus 25 percent ). The division has sold 134,500 (January-February 2008: 187,200) Mercedes-Benz, AMG, smart, and Maybach brand vehicles to date this year (minus 28 percent).

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported a 38.2 percent decrease in November sales with 14,102 vehicles sold, bringing the company’s year-to-date volume to 206,396 new units – an 8.6 percent decrease over the year-to-date record set last year. Sales highlights for Mercedes-Benz USA include a 16.9 percent increase in C-Class sales and a 5.5 percent increase M-Class SUV sales for the year-to-date.

In April 2009, sales at Mercedes-Benz USA mimicked those noted by the majority of other automakers, with MBUSA noting yet another double digit decline of 28.1 percent. In total, April sales amounted to 14,565 new units, compared to 20,271 new units in April of 2008. As a result of the figures, year-to-date sales at Mercedes-Benz USA now amount to 54,799 new units (compared to 77,918 new units in April 2008), or in percentages, a 29.7 drop compared to the prior year.

An ultrarare 1931 Daimler car was awarded "Best of Show" at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the top competition for high-priced collectible cars, on Sunday. The long-nosed 1931 Daimler Double-Six Corsica Drophead Coupe is one of only four that were produced. The car is currently owned by Robert Lee of Reno, Nev. It was judged the best car among 175 competing cars.

Daimler is reporting that worldwide sale of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart brands decreased 18.1 percent last month to 93,800 new units (compared to 114,600 units in October 2007). Despite the substantial drop, Mercedes-Benz Cars did manage to maintain a slight improvement in its year-to-date total, with the division noting sales of 1,073,700 new units – a 1.6 percent increase over 2007's 10-month ytd total.
The first special-protection models from Mercedes-Benz differed from those of later years not only with regard to their design and performance, but also in terms of their technical basis. Instead of having a self-supporting body structure, which is now the norm, their bodies were mounted on strong frames. The weight of the protective steel plates therefore called for less extensive design changes than is currently the case.
In total, more than 80 vehicles from Daimler will be on display including a number of world premiers, all of which "embody leadership in innovation in terms of safety, environmental compatibility and economic efficiency."
An Extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting of DaimlerChrysler AG was held overnight and 98.76 percent of the 5,000 or so shareholders voted to change DaimlerChrysler AG to Daimler AG, bringing the corporate title in line with the sell-off of Chrysler earlier this year.
Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars, may be considering a change in scenery, with the marketing maverick reportedly in agreement to take on the role of chief executive officer at the Rodenstock Group – a Munich-based eyeglass maker. As of now, however, a contract between the parties has yet to be signed, while Mercedes is rumored to still be seeking a suitable successor to Göttgens.
