motorpulse is a collaborative-filtering automotive news site. Every user (including you!) has the ability to submit news stories, determine which ones are most relevant, and benefit from the results.
Real news for real drivers, of course. Automotive enthusiasts enjoy all kinds of stories -- from spy photos of the next Ferrari to do-it-yourself guides for doing a brake job. And, yes, even photos of drivers doing the most ridiculous things with their cars.
Every time you find an interesting story, simply vote for it. The more votes that get accumulated for a story, the more highly promoted the story will be. The net effect is that the most highly voted stories will be displayed to other users.
Instead of a fixed set of categories, you can use the words that are best associated with your story. For example, if Honda released a hybrid race car, it would be difficult to come up with the categories that would accurately describe the story. Instead, you can just use tags to help people find them: hybrid, motorsports, honda. Just remember to separate tags with commas and spaces are ok: juan pablo montoya.
More or less. This site takes advantage of collaborative filtering and social bookmarking and a spritz of social networking, built on Ruby on Rails (with a touch of AJAX).
